Liverpool FC midfielder Wataru Endo was thanked as he paid a visit to a barber shop in St Helens. The Japanese captain was relatively unknown on Merseyside when he unexpectedly signed for the Reds in the summer of 2023 from German side Stuttgart.

However, he became an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s side as they won the League Cup and returned to the Champions League last season. He has featured less during this campaign under Arne Slot but has still impressed in his appearances in the domestic cups and off the bench in the Premier League. He could appear tonight in the Champions League fixture against Lille.

Endo appears to be enjoying life in Merseyside, previously praising Scousers as “very kind and nice” people. Now he has followed in the footsteps of his teammates by paying a visit to the St Helens branch of Barbers No 1.

Starting in St Helens, Barbers No 1 now has 15 shops in the North West, 13 of which are in Merseyside. It has become a popular destination for Liverpool and Everton footballers to get their hair cut.

On its Instagram page yesterday, the business shared a picture of Endo with the staff. There was also a video of Endo showcasing his fresh trim. In the caption, the business said: “Thanks for coming down to our St Helens store today @endowataru.”

Endi received support from Liverpool fans in the comments. One said: “Nice, clean and refreshing. Let's go Wataru.” Another added: “Love his hairstyle. Always simple and effective.”

In the last few years, Merseyside footballers past and present from Andy Robertson to Richarlison have visited Barbers No 1. Speaking previously to the ECHO, manager Sam Edwards claimed the flood of star studded clientele originated from one ingenious staff member.

He said: “We have a shop on Queens Drive. To get to the training ground, the players drive past the shop. And then one day, one of the lads, Tom, gave a flyer to Roberto Firmino and then it just kind of snowballed from there.

"We build up good relationships with the team and social media wise, it brings a lot of clients in. Some of the places the players have taken us - we've been to London a few times, I've been to Portugal a few times.

"We went to cut the Brazilian team which was really like a wow moment. We've done the England camp. We've done quite a few things, personal weddings, stuff like that.”
