Luis Diaz is settled at Liverpool and only a major-money contract offer should tempt him to entertain a move away. That's the viewpoint of retired Colombian star Faustino Asprilla following summer transfer window speculation surrounding his compatriot.

The 27-year-old hasn't given any suggestion he wants out of Anfield this month and played the full 90 minutes in Arne Slot's first Premier League match, Saturday's 2-0 win away at Ipswich Town. He was named in connection with Barcelona and Manchester City in recent weeks.

While they're both in the select pool of clubs you could realistically see Diaz leaving Liverpool for, the former have instead swooped to sign Spain international Dani Olmo for £48million. And suggestions City were interested in him were quickly debunked.

Asprilla doesn't see any need for him to consider an exit, saying during an interview with Gol Caracol: "I think Luis Díaz is already settled in Liverpool, they already know him, he has been there for two years, playing well."

The Newcastle cult hero could only see him doing so should he be presented with a contract offer which significantly increases his current pay packet, which is believed to be worth £55,000 a week. He could almost definitely earn more elsewhere.

There's yet to be any concrete talks from Reds chiefs about renegotiating the deal he signed in January 2022 and giving him a more favourable salary. "If the difference is not much, I would stay at Liverpool," Asprilla continued.

"But if the difference in money is big, which in the end is what counts, then you always have to look for your own well-being - both in terms of football and finances."

Slot made clear where he stands with regards to Diaz in his pre-match press conference earlier this week. He reassured fans that "his future is with us" after being directly asked about the rumours.

"When I walked in here the screen had Sky Sports on and the whole day is talking about football, so there is a lot of speculation constantly in this country. That is clear for me. It's not a surprise if you tell me if there's some about Luis Diaz," Slot said.

"His future is with us because I like a lot what I've seen in the last 10 days he's been in and I saw the same last season. He's had a big impact on Liverpool seasons and I am hoping he has a big impact on the upcoming season as well.”
