Liverpool house share in sought after area that's changed my life
I got the keys to my house in April, I’d never heard of Aigburth or had a clue about anything in south Liverpool before I moved in. I’d never heard of Lark Lane, Sefton Park or any other of the sought after amenities in my area.
In fact, I didn’t know Aigburth was a sought after area until I found myself living here. Nor did I know that this house would be the place I’ve felt most at home in my 26 years of living.
A lot of the huge homes you see in Aigburth are actually house shares home to young professionals like the one I live in, students or people who are just looking for a fresh start. When I first moved to Liverpool the idea of living in a house share for the first time since university scared me, but that was only until I realised most people my age are doing the exact same thing.

But what is life like behind the doors of these house shares? Well, ours is a community hub, a place where we can come home and tell each other all about our days. We cry, laugh, drink a hell of a lot of wine and dance like there’s no tomorrow and I absolutely love it, to the point I’ve never felt more at home.
The area itself is pretty sought after, sitting in a prime spot between Lark Lane and Sefton Park. The lane is a hotspot for food and drink - you will find a 10/10 spicy margarita on the lane - and the park is well, probably one of the prettiest spots in the North West.
Aigburth Road has endless shops and cafes, bars and restaurants to enjoy, and you can get into Liverpool city centre from St Michael's station within 10 minutes. You’re not too far from the motorway if you’re going anywhere further afield.
But more importantly, the people are one of the biggest reasons why I’ve never felt so at home. We have a huge cosy living room and most weekends I’ll wake up to find someone has crashed on the sofa.
We wake up and cook breakfast together before deciding on weekend plans. We have house nights where we’ll head to the many pubs and over the summer we had park evenings, where we took picnic blankets, bottles of wine and glasses to enjoy the sunshine in beautiful surroundings.
And I’m not the only person who will big-up living in a house share. One house mate, who moved into our home two years ago, said: “I love our home because it feels like a community place, it’s an open door place where friends come and go. It's the perfect place to be in terms of needing to get anywhere, South Parkway train station is less than ten minutes away, the prom is a 15 minute walk, Lark Lane is around the corner and so is Sefton Park.
“I love living in Aigburth in general, there’s such a variety of people and everyone is always so happy. You have the mums and parents, the students, young professionals and everyone just links happily together,
“I honestly think moving here has changed my life in terms of having the freedom and the people I have met. I have met life-long friends here, I can't imagine my life without them and that's just this one house and there are plenty of other houses like us in this area.”
Alex Jennings, 28, originally from Allerton, moved into our house two years ago, moved out and loved it so much she decided to move back in earlier this year. She said: “I love this house so much because everyone is just so considerate of each other and it's a proper family unit and you know if you’re having a bad day it’ll just be gone when you get home. It’s healed me this house.
“The area is ideal, I can go for a walk in the park. Lark Lane is on the doorstep to go for a bevvy. It has incredible public transport links so on a practical level it’s good too.”
I honestly had no idea what I was moving into when I turned up on my doorstep with a van load of stuff in April, but I’m so glad I chose this home, in this area. And for anyone looking for somewhere to live or toying with the idea of moving into a house share I couldn’t recommend one enough, you’ll make friends for life - trust me it’s worth having to share a bathroom for.
