Kenny Dalglish knighted: Liverpool legend honoured by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace

Kenny Dalglish has been given a knighthood from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

Dalglish won six first division titles as a Liverpool player before becoming player-manager of the club in 1985, guiding them to another three while at the helm.

The former forward began his career at Celtic where he scored 112 goals in 204 games, winning 102 caps for Scotland and becoming their joint-top goal scorer alongside Denis Law.

Dalglish, 67, has also worked closely with the families of the Hillsborough disaster.

"It's humbling, I'm hugely proud of what's happened," he said. "You never set out in your life to do anything other than what your parents taught you to do and that's to be decent to people and if somebody needed help you helped them.

"The three things they've recognised are things that are really close to our hearts."

Jermain Defoe was also honoured at Buckingham Palace on Friday, awarded an OBE in recognition of his foundation.
