A Liverpool woman has admitted trying to smuggle nearly £50,000 off the Isle of Man. Amanda Patricia Done, 31, appeared before magistrates on Thursday, November 7 where she pleaded guilty to attempting to remove criminal property from the island.

Reports in local media on the Isle of Man said Done, of Aspes Road in West Derby, was stopped by customs officers at the Sea Terminal in Douglas on October 25. When asked about her visit, Done said she had been on the island to see a man.

The Isle of Man Today reported customs officers found money in bags and in a stash hidden in her car. The total cash found amounted to £47,894. The paper reported Done told the customs officers: "It’s cash, I sold a car."

Done, said to be a mum-of-two, was remanded in custody and will appear for sentencing on Friday, November 15. The Isle of Man Today reported that bail was opposed by the prosecution as one of the defendant's children was in the car at the time, something they said was a deliberate decoy.

The ECHO approached the Isle of Man Constabulary for more information about the case.
