Liverpool are being linked with a move for a new striker and a midfielder according to the latest transfer rumour mill. The Reds had a quiet summer in terms of new signings with Federico Chiesa the only new addition to the squad for this season.

Giorgi Mamardashvili was also signed from Valencia but the Georgia international will spend the remainder of the campaign on loan with the La Liga club. In terms of outgoings, several players left Liverpool in the summer with Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Adrian, Bobby Clark, Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho all leaving Anfield on a permanent basis.

It remains to be seen what plans Liverpool have for the January transfer window. Arne Slot has enjoyed an impressive start to life as the Reds head coach, with Liverpool top of the Premier League after the first six fixtures.

The ECHO takes a look at some of the latest Liverpool transfer news and gossip that have generated headlines over the last 24 hours.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David. According to Italian news outlet Inter Live, the Reds will compete with Inter Milan to sign the Canada international either in the January transfer window or next summer.

The report claims that Liverpool are willing to make an offer worth €25 million (£21 million) to sign David. It has even been suggested that the Reds are prepared to offer the striker a five-year contract with an annual wage of €5 million (£4.2 million).

Arsenal, Newcastle and Juventus are also reportedly interested in signing David. The striker has scored seven goals in 11 appearances for Lille this season including five in Ligue 1.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have reportedly been handed a blow in their chances of signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and Atalanta star Ederson. The Reds were credited with an interest in signing both midfielders during the summer transfer window but they both remained with their respective clubs.

According to Caught Offside, Manchester City have drawn up a shortlist of players to replace Rodri when the transfer window opens in January. Rodri is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

The report claims that City have identified Wharton and Ederson as players that could be signed in the New Year. It has also been reported that Liverpool also have an interest in Wharton, who only signed for Palace in January this year from Blackburn Rovers.
