Liverpool will face Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went into Monday’s draw in Nyon knowing that, having won Group E, would draw one of FC Basel, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Porto.

Liverpool have now been drawn against Portuguese giants Porto, who finished as runners-up to Besiktas in an underrated Group G with RB Leipzig and Monaco departing the competition.

The first legs of the Round of 16 will begin in February, week commencing Monday 12th, with the final match day on Wednesday February 21.

The second legs will then take place at fortnight after, with the match day on Wednesday March 14.

The draw for the quarter-finals will then be held on Friday March 16th.

How Liverpool reached the last 16

After finishing fourth in the Premier League last season, Liverpool needed to go through the play-offs to book their place in the Champions League group stages - and two victories over Hoffenheim ensured the Reds returned to Europe's elite competition.

But their Group E campaign got off to a frustrating start as Klopp's men could only draw 2-2 with Sevilla at Anfield, in a game that saw Roberto Firmino miss a penalty and Joe Gomez get sent off in added time.

A 1-1 draw away to Spartak Moscow followed before Liverpool got back to goalscoring ways by thrashing Maribor 7-0 in mid-October - the Reds' club-record European away win.

Another win over Maribor was to come for Liverpool, this time a 3-0 victory at Anfield, but Klopp's men then threw away a 3-0 half-time lead in Spain to draw 3-3 against Sevilla in November.

The draw meant Klopp's side had to wait until their final Group E game to book their place in the Champions League round of 16, which they did when a Philippe Coutinho hat-trick inspired the Reds to a 7-0 victory at home to Spartak to secure top spot in the group.
