Liverpool receive fresh Anthony Gordon transfer update as Newcastle stance on sale 'emerges'
Liverpool have enjoyed a positive start to the new season and appear to be moving in the right direction under Arne Slot.
The Reds kicked off their campaign with an opening-day win at Ipswich Town, which they followed up by beating Brentford at Anfield the following week. A 3-0 win at Old Trafford represented a major moment in Slot's start to life on Merseyside, though his first setback arrived last weekend after suffering a shock defeat by Nottingham Forest.
Prevailing as winners at AC Milan was the perfect response to this setback, though there will be plenty more obstacles for the new Liverpool boss to overcome in the coming months.
One player Slot could well have been working with this season is Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, who the Reds showed an interest in during the transfer window. An update has now emerged on the future of the England international, which could spell bad news.

Gordon deal
Newcastle are reportedly preparing to offer Gordon a new contract to make the ex-Everton man their highest earner at the club.
Gordon would earn close to £9million per season under the new terms, as reported by The Daily Mail, eclipsing Bruno Guimaraes as the Magpies' best-paid player.
Liverpool were, of course, in talks with Newcastle over a deal for Gordon in the summer, which was first derailed by Eddie Howe's side requesting Jarell Quansah to move in the opposite direction. Joe Gomez was then offered up by the Reds in a swap deal, though an agreement could not be found.
Arsenal are now described as monitoring the player's situation "very closely" as Newcastle "may consider" selling Gordon if he does not commit his future to the club before next summer.
Matip update
Fulham have reportedly entered the race to sign former Liverpool defender Joel Matip, who remains a free agent following his departure from the Reds at the end of last season.
Football Insider has claimed West Ham, Fulham, Bournemouth and Wolves have all "registered their interest" in the centre-back, who is also understood to be a target for various other clubs in Europe.
Fulham are now said to be part of the conversation as Marco Silva is seeking "further cover" in this area despite recruiting Joachim Anderson from Crystal Palace this summer.
