Liverpool have announced they will be contacting season ticket holders over the next 14 days to ensure they are refunded for the club’s remaining four Premier League games.

All supporters who purchased tickets for the final league matches are to be reimbursed or receive a credit towards a future ticket purchase.

With any scheduled fixtures to be held behind closed doors for the foreseeable future, Liverpool will lose an estimated £12.9 million in ticket sales alone in 2019-20 as the Premier League clubs count the crippling cost of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last season, Liverpool announced they received £84m from matchday revenue. Inclusive of 19 Premier League games, six Champions League matches and an EFL Cup tie, that equates to £3.23m per game.

The club has also suspended the process of renewing season tickets until there is clarity when the 2020-21 campaign will begin.

“Season ticket holders will receive a full pro rata refund for all remaining home games, while members who have purchased tickets on a match-by-match basis will receive a refund for any of the matches that they have purchased tickets for,” the club confirmed in a statement.

“We are currently working through the most effective process to issue refunds given the complexities and considerations of the various payment methods used when tickets were purchased.”

Premier League clubs would normally be well-advanced in their process of renewing season tickets. Having frozen prices for the last four seasons, Liverpool have been in no position to clarify future cost tiers, the situation complicated by the health crisis.

“We will be contacting each affected ticket holder during the course of the next 14 days to provide more information on the refund process based on the category of ticket they have purchased,” the statement continued.

“We ask that all supporters wait to receive further correspondence from the club and refrain from contacting us regarding refunds in the meantime.”

Liverpool are one of several Premier League clubs to confirm they are reimbursing fans who will no longer be permitted to see fixtures with Everton, Manchester City, Brighton and Norwich City among the first to do so.
