Liverpool returned to the Champions League after a three-year absence thanks to a commanding 6-3 aggregate win over Hoffenheim.

Three goals in the opening 21 minutes put the Reds firmly in control, with a Mohamed Salah strike sandwiched between two from Emre Can.

Former Arsenal and West Ham man Havard Nordtveit was hooked for striker Mark Uth after 24 minutes and his replacement soon grabbed one back but it was too little too late for the German outfit.

Roberto Firmino added a fourth on the night just after the hour mark as Liverpool marched into the Champions League group stage. Sandro Wagner added a late consolation.

English football now have five representatives for the first time ever as the Reds join Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City and Manchester United.

The draw for the Champions League takes place in Monaco on Thursday, August 24, from 5pm BST. Liverpool will be placed in Pot 3, along with Tottenham, with Chelsea in Pot 1 and the two Manchester clubs in Pot 2.
