Liverpool are being linked with a midfielder and a centre-back in the latest transfer rumours. The Reds are yet to complete their first signing of the summer window but that could be about to change.

A £30 million deal to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has been agreed between Liverpool and the La Liga club. Should the deal go through, Mamardashvili is expected to spend the remainder of the season on loan with Valencia head of officially moving to Merseyside next summer.

Arne Slot's start to life as Liverpool's new head coach has been as good as anyone could have asked for with victories and clean sheets against Ipswich Town and Brentford. The Reds will now prepare to face Manchester United this Sunday, which takes place two days after the summer transfer window closes.

The ECHO takes a look at some of the latest Liverpool transfer rumours doing the rounds over the last 24 hours.

Liverpool have reportedly re-entered the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan. The Reds were first linked with the centre-back earlier in the summer transfer window, although those reports were soon dismissed.

However, according to Tutto Juve, Liverpool are now in the race to sign Simakan before the transfer window closes. It has been claimed that the Reds will compete with Juventus for the 24-year-old's signature.

The report claims that Liverpool's decision to sanction the exit of Sepp van den Berg means they could move to bring Simakan to Anfield. There is no mention in the article of how much the Reds would be prepared to pay, or Leipzig's asking price.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. The Reds have been linked with a move for the Netherlands international throughout the summer.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are closing in on signing Koopmeiners after reaching an agreement worth €60 million (£51 million) for the midfielder. The report claims that a deal could be announced in the coming days after Juventus agreed to meet Atalanta's asking price for the midfielder.

Liverpool have been mentioned throughout the summer as showing an interest in signing Koopmeiners. However, there has always been the acceptance that Juventus would be the midfielder's most likely destination were he to leave the Serie A club.
