A Liverpool riverside restaurant was named one of the best in the UK.

Those looking for a venue with an atmosphere as the food should head to Maray, according to The Times list. Sharing a list of the 31 best riverside pubs and restaurants in the UK for 2023, the venue on the Royal Albert Dock made the cut.

Maray, which has two sites in the city, serves Middle-Eastern-inspired small plates catering for both vegetarians and vegans. Maray switches things up slightly twice a year in the spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons.

That means that now the spring and summer menu is being served and Maray's head chef Alex has been working with local suppliers to source the best new produce, introduce some new dishes and tweaks some existing favourites.

New dishes include smacked cucumbers which are paired with confit garlic, onion seeds and red pepper flakes, served atop a bed of labneh. Crispy sea bass which is a re-imagining of their favourite dishes for spring and lamb skewers made up of leg of lamb marinated in cumin, coriander, lemon, Greek oregano and garlic. It's served with baba ganoush and caramelised onion.

The dessert section also reintroduces a baklava cheesecake and a vegan chocolate and coffee ganach brownie. Andy Lynes, from The Times, said: "For a spot of Middle Eastern-inspired dockside dining, head to this buzzy glass-fronted restaurant overlooking the water and boats of Liverpool’s Albert Dock.

"There’s outdoor dining next to the dock too, though taken at your own risk since it’s uncovered. Let the spicy flavours of 'disco cauliflower' made with chermoula and harissa hot sauces dance on your tongue, then calm things down with a Moloko cocktail made with pomegranate, rum, lime and mint."

Previously speaking to the ECHO, bosses at Maray said they were thrilled to receive the accolade. Managing director, James Bates said: "We're delighted to be included in such a lovely list.

"Our Dockside restaurant really comes into its own in the summer months and we've recently invested in new outdoor seating and added some summery dishes to our menu, so we're ready for the warmer months."
