There was a sense of de ja vu after a Liverpool loanee scored a free-kick at the weekend. Luke Chambers was on the scoresheet for Wigan Athletic on Saturday in a 4-0 victory over Bristol Rovers.

Joe Hugill scored a first-half brace for the Latics before Thelo Aasgaard found the back of the net shortly after the interval. Chambers, who started at left-back for Wigan, scored the fourth goal of the contest with a long-range free-kick in the 70th minute.

Chambers joined Wigan on a season-long loan from Liverpool at the start of August. The 20-year-old spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan with the Latics, having previously had a spell in Scotland with Kilmarnock at the start of the season.

The goal from Chambers was his first since arriving on loan at Wigan during the summer transfer window, and has a remarkable resemblance to a famous strike from Liverpool history. Chambers struck his free-kick outside the right corner of the penalty area, and many fans across social media pointed out a similarity to a similar strike from former Brazilian full-back Fabio Aurelio.

It was back in April 2009 that Liverpool faced Chelsea in the quarter-final of the Champions League. The Reds drew 4-4 at Stamford Bridge, and Aurelio opened the scoring with a free-kick that found the bottom right corner and beat goalkeeper Petr Cech at the near post.

Xabi Alonso, Lucas Leiva and Dirk Kuyt also found the back of the net for Liverpool, although it was not enough to beat Chelsea as the Reds lost 7-5 on aggregate. During that season, though the Reds did the double over Chelsea in the Premier League with victories at both Anfield and Stamford Bridge.
