Liverpool vs Everton player ratings: Who stood out from the pack in the Merseyside derby?
Liverpool
Simon Mignolet
The Belgium international goalkeeper was rarely tested by Everton and did everything that was required of him. Has a decent penalty saving record but not able to stop Rooney’s effort. 6/10
Joe Gomez
Another solid and dependable showing from the young defender who seems to get better with each passing week. Composed throughout. 6/10
Dejan Lovren
Gave away a daft penalty as he needlessly shoved Calvert-Lewin to ground. The Croatian always seems to have this kind of moment of madness in him. 5/10
Ragnar Klaven
After an uncertain start to life at Anfield the Estonian appears to have to adjusted. A measured and disciplined showing overall. 6/10
Andrew Robertson
A rare start for the Scotland left-back in Alberto Moreno’s absence. Defended solidly and showed a willingness to get forward and support Liverpool’s attacks whenever possible. 6/10
James Milner
Cool head in the heat of the midfield derby battle as he provided some much-needed stability for Liverpool. Crosses from caused problems. 6/10
Jordan Henderson
A captain’s performance from the midfielder who made his presence felt in the centre of the park. Used the ball intelligently throughout. 7/10
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
A few nice touches but drifted in and out of the game. Maybe not quite the game for him to showcase his ability. 5/10
Mohamed Salah
The difference maker again for Liverpool. Industrious, creative and threatened with his directness. Another goal capped a superb individual display. Strange decision to take him off. 8/10
Dominic Solanke
Handed a surprise start in attack and decided to keep it simple which meant the youngster was never really able to leave his mark on the game. 5/10
Sadio Mane
Not quite at his sparkling best but still managed to show flashes of quality. Should have passed the ball to a team-mate when through on goal. 6/10
Substitutes: Roberto Firmino for Salah (67) – busy but unable to adjust to the pace of the game. 6/10. Philippe Coutinho for Oxlade-Chamberlain (78) – went close with a free-kick but fans will question why he did not start. 6/10. Danny Ings for (Solanke 80) – showed willingness to run the channels late on. 6/10.
Everton
Jordan Pickford
Little he could do about Salah’s goal and otherwise a good performance from the England international who was much the busier of the two goalkeepers. 7/10
Jonjoe Kenny
The young Everton full-back appeared a little flustered as the occasion seemed to get the better of him but his performance improved as the game wore on. 6/10
Mason Holgate
Probably breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the team sheet before kick-off as Klopp resisted selecting all of Liverpool’s attacking threats. Kept his head. 7/10
Ashley Williams
Always looked prone to make a mistake and wasteful in possession. Positionally poor and was lucky not to be punished further. 6/10
Cuco Martina
Went to ground far too easily for Salah’s goal and looked shaky for most of the game. Seamus Coleman’s return cannot come soon enough. 4/10
Wayne Rooney
Utilised in a slightly unfamiliar wide right role before the break before he moved centrally in the second half. Showed his big game composure to convert from the spot. 7/10
Idrissa Gueye
A key player for Everton as he snapped a the heels of Liverpool’s players. Possibly could have done better for Salah’s goal. 7/10
Tom Davies
Struggled to get to grips with the game and probably the correct decision to substitute him at half-time. 5/10
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Everton fans will have expected a little more creativity from their club record signing who, to his credit, did most of what was required tactically. 5/10
Oumar Niasse
After an anonymous performance in the first half Sam Allardyce had seen enough and the striker was correctly withdrawn at half-time. 4/10
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Everton needed the youngster to use his physical presence to hold the ball up in attack and he delivered. A mature display from the 20-year-old who won the penalty. 7/10
Substitutes:Morgan Schneiderlin for Davies (45) – gave Everton a bit more physical presence in midfield. 7/10. Aaron Lennon for Niasse (45) – offered more of an attacking threat but did not see enough of the ball. 6/10. Phil Jagielka (82) for Rooney – added some late defensive presence. 6/10.
