Liverpool's dream forward line after completing £70m Khvicha Kvaratskhelia transfer
Liverpool could still strengthen their forward options if one of the latest reports is to be believed. Rumours have been swirling all summer about the players that the Reds could sign before the summer transfer window closes.
Arne Slot is the new head coach of Liverpool but is yet to welcome any new signings to the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp earlier this summer. The Reds have until August 30, which just happens to be next Friday, to complete their transfer business but it has been rather quiet so far.
Liverpool are yet to make any new signings this summer, but one of the latest reports suggests that could be about to change. Reports have claimed that Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has reemerged as a target for the Reds.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are prepared to make a late bid to sign the Georgia international before the window closes. The report claims that the Reds have been monitoring Kvaratskhelia for some time, with the player thought to be valued by Napolin at around £70 million.
It remains to be seen what offer, if any, Liverpool would be prepared to make for Kvaratskhelia. This is not the first time that the Reds have been linked with the forward, although the rumoured asking price could be too steep for Liverpool to meet.
Should Liverpool decide to agree a deal to sign Kvaratskhelia, it could create a dream forward line for Slot and the Reds. Kvaratskhelia plays on the left wing for Napoli but was used in a more central role in the club's Serie A opener against Hellas Verona at the weekend.
Kvaratskhelia's versatility would be a major bonus for Liverpool and for Slot with his team selections. Given the current options in the squad, though, the 23-year-old would likely be used on the left wing were he to move to Anfield.
Should that happen, Kvaratskhelia would compete with Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo for the starting spot in the team. Diogo Jota is arguably the first choice for the striker role in the team, with Darwin Nunez also an option.
Mohamed Salah is the first-choice option on the right wing, but the Egyptian's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Kvaratskhelia is also capable of performing on the right side of the forward line when needed, and his arrival could be part of Liverpool's long-term plan to replace Salah.
Only time will tell if the rumours linking Liverpool with a move for Kvaratskhelia prove to be true. If so, it would give the Reds a long-term versatile option who could only add much-needed depth to Liverpool's goalscoring prowess.
