Living life on the edge: See the ‘Bond villain’s lair’ that’s cut into a cliff face

The name’s Brutale… Casa Brutale.

It’s a Bond villain’s dream lair that’ll have you living life on the edge - as it’s cut into a cliff face.

The astonishing conceptual home was dreamed up by the Open Platform for Architecture (OPA).

Perched on cliffs overlooking Greece’s Aegean Sea, its giant glass windows mean there are beach views from every level.

There’s also an infinity rooftop swimming pool, reinforced with glass so it can act as a skylight for the rest of the property.

Inside, concrete, wood and steel give the home a “brutal” look - which also gave rise to its name.

Laertis-Antonios Ando Vassiliou, director of OPA’s north branch in Haarlem, Netherlands, helped come up with the concept.

“Casa Brutale is a spatial study on ambiance, materiality and challenging engineering. The ideas came about through a lot of reading, brainstorming and conversation,” he said.

“We tried to incorporate brutalism, ambiance, poetry, view, Greek landscape and a modern version of traditional Greek architecture,” he added.

The property currently only remains on the drawing board, but Vassiliou said he was working on its feasibility.

“We believe it is possible to be built in the near future - challenging but not a fantasy,” he said.
