Livingston FC slams fan after first team player 'racially abused' online

Livingston FC have slammed a supporter who left an alleged racist incident on social media.

The Livi side clawed back the deficit separating them from Falkirk at the top of the table by travelling to the Bairns and leaving victorious after a hard fought 2-1 win.

It is understood the incident took place on a post shared by the Livingston FC social media team who were giving regular updates on their channels.

The club said they were aware of the alleged abuse and added they were saddened and angered by the post which they described as being 'racially aggravated' and targeted at a member of their first team.

They said the club have launched an investigation and will be seeking the strictest punishment possible for the alleged culprit.

In a statement on X, the club said: "The club are aware, saddened and angered at racially aggravated posts aimed at a member of our first team squad this evening.

"The club will be investigating and pushing for the strongest punishment possible."

The incident has left a sour taste as Livingston made another step towards returning to the Scottish Premiership.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of concerns raised about social media comments surrounding the Falkirk vs Livingston football match on Friday, 31 January, 2025.

"Whilst no complaints have been made to Police Scotland at this time, we will engage with both clubs to establish the circumstances.”
