Livingston woman climbs Africa’s highest mountain after dramatic weight loss
A Livingston woman has climbed Africa’s highest mountain after transforming her life thanks to a dramatic weight loss.
In a remarkable display of determination and strength, Claire Reith has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro after embarking on a life-changing journey with Slimming World.
Claire, 37, had struggled with her weight for most of her adult life. Despite trying various diets and exercise routines, she often found herself caught in a cycle of disappointment.
That all changed two years ago when Claire decided to join a Slimming World group.

“I was at a crossroads,” Claire said. “I wanted to make a real change, not just for the number on the scale, but for my health and my life.
“When I joined Slimming World, it was different. I didn’t feel deprived or restricted.
“I could enjoy the foods I loved while learning to make healthier choices.”
Through the Slimming World program, Claire learned how to embrace balanced eating, enjoyed regular support at group meetings, and discovered the motivation she needed to adopt an active lifestyle.
As the pounds slowly melted away, Claire’s confidence soared, and she realized she could achieve more than she had ever thought possible.
It wasn’t long before Claire began setting bigger goals.
She said: “I always dreamed of doing something like climbing Kilimanjaro, but I didn’t think it would ever be within my reach.
“But as I lost weight and got stronger, I started to believe that anything was possible.”
In September, Claire took on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, an adventure she had once thought was beyond her. With support from her Slimming World group, her family, and friends, Claire began rigorous training for the trek.
The climb itself took six days, during which Claire faced physical and emotional challenges that pushed her to her limits.

“The altitude, the physical strain, and the cold were all tough,” said Claire.
“I kept thinking back to all the hard work I had put in. Every time I felt like giving up, I remembered how far I’d come.”
Claire’s achievement was a culmination of years of hard work and perseverance.
When she finally reached the summit, she was overwhelmed with emotion.
She added: “Standing on top of Kilimanjaro was a moment I will never forget. I had tears in my eyes.
“It was proof that no dream is too big, and no challenge is impossible if you’re willing to work for it.”
Since returning from her climb, Claire has been sharing her story with others in her Slimming World group, inspiring fellow members to set and achieve their own goals.
“I want people to know that Slimming World isn’t just about losing weight,” said Claire.
“It’s about changing your mindset, gaining confidence, and realizing that you can do things you never thought were possible.”
