Liz Dawn Admits Emmerdale Appearance Was A 'Career-Long' Ambition

Liz Dawn got her big break when she was cast as the iconic Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street, remaining in the ITV soap for over thirty years.

However, the 76-year-old actress has now admitted that despite finding fame in Corrie it was her cameo in Emmerdale over Christmas that really saw her fulfill a ‘career-long ambition’.

Liz had a cameo appearance in Coronation Street’s rival soap last week and says she’s now got the acting bug again.

The star explained: “It’s been a career-long ambition of mine to appear in 'Emmerdale’. I am a Yorkshire girl after all. In a way it’s so strange that I became famous in 'Coronation Street’, which is Lancashire through and through.

"It’s only a cameo but I would love to do more episodes and bob back in and out from time to time to get more involved.”

Speaking to The Mirror, she added: “It did feel a bit strange playing another character, especially as I knew all the crew recognised me as having played Vera, and I felt a bit edgy. But that’s not a bad thing - a few nerves to give you a bit of a lift.

"Mrs Winterbottom is not a bit like Vera, she is snooty for a start - a bit like a Yorkshire Hyacinth Bucket.

"In the end I was worried over nothing, everybody I was working with was lovely and you know when you’ve been doing something for so long, it was just like riding a bike - it’s a different character but it’s the same method.”

Corrie or the 'dales, it’s always a pleasure to have you back on our screens, Liz.
