Lizzo dominates as women lead Grammy Award nominations

Women lead the way in this year's Grammy nominations, with the best pop solo performance category boasting an all-female lineup.

Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Lizzo and Taylor Swift will all go head-to-head in the category at next year's ceremony.

Truth Hurts singer Lizzo got the most nominations, boasting eight nods, four of which are in the top four categories - record, album and song of the year, and best new artist.

Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X follow with six nominations each.

Seventeen-year-old Eilish is the youngest artist to receive nods in all four main categories, and earlier this year she became the youngest female solo artist to get to number one in the UK album charts with When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

Lil Nas X was named in three of the top spots, largely recognising for his hit song Old Town Road.

Ariana Grande and R&B singer HER got five nominations each, while Beyonce and indie folk band Bon Iver scored four.

Lewis Capaldi also scored a nod for his single Someone You Loved.

The singer became the first Scottish solo artist to score a US number one in 40 years earlier this month, with Someone You Loved knocking Lizzo's Truth Hurts from the top spot.

The peer-voted Grammys are recognised as one of the biggest nights in the music industry.

Grammy CEO Deborah Dugan and Grammy chair of the board of trustees Harvey Mason Jr announced the nominees, alongside 15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys and two-time Grammy winning singer Bebe Rexha.

Keys will host the ceremony for the second year running after winning praise for her presenting of last year's show.

Her opening monologue alongside former first lady Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Jada Pinkett Smith received a standing ovation from the audience.

The singer says she plans to "blow the roof off" at the 2020 Grammys, which she says she hopes will continue to celebrate diversity in the industry.

The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on 26 January 2020 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
