Yahoo News Lizzo shuts down body shamers in video about her ‘obese’ day in the life
Lizzo is responding to an Instagram follower who asked the pop superstar "How do you deal with being obese every day?" where she satirically chronicled her day in her Los Angeles mansion and poked fun at her "fat" bank account.
"I wake up into my obese bed. I have to get like a king bed because I’m so obese. And then I put on my obese Louis Vuitton house slippers and I walk into my massive obese bathroom and I just stare into my wall-to-wall obese mirror and I just lather myself in the most obese expensive oils and creams," the 32-year-old said in a video shared to her Instagram on Saturday.
She continued, "Oh god, I walk into my obese, gorgeous, mid-century modern kitchen and by the time I’ve made it to my kitchen, I’ve already made another obese million dollars. My bank account is so fat. My bank account is so obese and like, I try to put it on a diet. But she’s just so stubborn like, she won’t listen. But you know, it’s fine."
Lizzo littered her spiel with fake tearful moments, breaking to laugh at the end. "Tales from my live," she captioned the clip. Fans of the singer took to her comments to praise her for the way that she handled the "disillusioned trolls."
"I love it," Tina Knowles commented. "who ever asks that has an obesely stupid brain!!! I love the obese bank account part."
Lenny Kravitz also replied, "Explain it to them you beautiful queen."
Finally, America Ferrera urged Lizzo to "please write this song."
Lizzo has been outspoken about not only being body positive, but instead being body-normative. "I want to normalize my body. And not just be like, ‘Ooh, look at this cool movement. Being fat is body-positive.’ No, being fat is normal. I think now, I owe it to the people who started this to not just stop here. We have to make people uncomfortable again, so that we can continue to change," she told Vogue as the publication's October 2020 cover star.
She's also opened up about her mental health sharing in a TikTok posted in November that "Money doesn’t buy you happiness." But for the sake of shutting down haters, Lizzo will certainly talk about her bank account.
