Llandudno named one of UK's best seaside towns by celebrated travel writer
A travel writer's list of the best seaside towns in the UK includes one destination in Wales. Dixe Wills was asked to draw up a list of his eight favourite coastal resorts for the BBC's Countryfile.
The writer has penned several books about Britain - including The Z-Z of Great Britain and Tiny Islands. It means he knows the four nations of the UK as well as anyone.
One of his top picks for coastal towns is the magnificent Llandudno. The Queens of the Welsh Resorts has been attracting tourists for nearly two centuries and its appeal is as strong as ever.

On Llandudno, Dixe Wills said: "Unusually for coastal tourism hotspots, Llandudno, was planned as a seaside resort in 1848 by architect Owen Williams, and retains an elegant Victorian sheen.
"Llandudno’s beach and attractive streets – some still sporting their original iron colonnades – have long lured the English: two out of five residents hail from the next-door nation. The town also hosts a large proportion of retirees."
Other destinations on the list included Salcombe in Devon, Filey in Yorkshire and Port Righ on the Isle of Skye.
It's not the first time Llandudno has been praised this year. It was named the best destination in the country and was in the UK top ten in the GO Outdoors list of holiday hotspots for 2024.
Which? also ranked it as one of the best in Britain in a survey this year. But the town's North Shore beach was also rated one of the most disappointing in the UK thanks to its lack of sand.
