Local Officials Ban Russian Forces From Crossing Damaged Kherson Bridge

A bridge that crosses the Dnieper River in Kherson, Ukraine, has been extensively damaged, according to footage shared by local officials on July 20.

Russian forces are no longer allowed to cross the Antonovskiy Bridge or stop in front of it, according to Yuri Sobolevskyi, the first deputy head of the Kherson regional council. Despite the significant damage, civilians cars are still allowed to cross, but are discouraged “unless absolutely necessary.”

According to the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense, the bridge is politically significant to Russian forces because it is one of two crossing points over the Dnieper River and can be used to supply and withdraw troops.

“Control of Dnieper crossings is likely to become a key factor in the outcome of fighting in the region,” the ministry said. Credit: Yuri Sobolevskyi via Storyful
