Locals have been left baffled after a viral TikTok video claims to have caught the 'first snow in Edinburgh'.

A picturesque video shared by a travel vlogger shows the iconic Big Wheel on Princes Street near the Scott Monument on Saturday evening (November 16). The illuminated monument towers above while, what appears to be snowflakes, fall.

But locals in the comments were quick to comment there was 'no snow in Edinburgh' with others mentioning the strange phenomenon only occurs on that particular corner near the Christmas markets.

This comes after BBC Weather forecast snow on Monday morning. However, this has now been updated since the yellow weather warning for snow and ice was removed.

While a cold snap has certainly hit the capital, residents were quick to suggest the 'snow', which the TikToker was so excited about, may not have come from the sky.

One said: "We were there tonight and it was a snow machine."

Another said: "It was snowing all week on that corner. It must be a snow machine."

A third corrected the account: "There was no snow in Edinburgh today, I was there."

"I'm in Edinburgh and it's a foot deep now and the snowplow is on standby", one joked.

And another commented: "The way I ran to my window and opened the blinds."

The Christmas markets opened to the public on November 15 as thousands descended on the iconic event. This year there are more stalls and the much-loved rides including the LNER Big Wheel, the Helter Skelter and The Star Flyer.
