Locals Told It's 'Too Late to Leave' as Blaze Threatens New South Wales Town

Residents in the western New South Wales town of Tambaroora were told it was “too late to leave” and to “go inside and protect yourself” as a wildfire spread rapidly in the area, prompting an emergency warning on March 7.

This footage, released by the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), gives an aerial view of the Alpha Road Fire burning just north of the town of Tambaroora.

According to the RFS the fire reached 4,574 hectares (11,300 acres) in size by Tuesday afternoon and was still “out of control.”

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a fire weather warning for extreme fire danger for the Central Ranges on Tuesday.
