Locals Wake to Quake Alarm as Tremors Felt in Mexico City

Tremors from a 6.8-magnitude earthquake were felt in Mexico City in the early hours of Thursday, September 22.

The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake’s epicenter was in Michoacan, one of Mexico’s western states, around 170 miles from the capital.

The source of this video, Leon Najera R, said there was nonetheless a palpable “nervousness” with the quake coming so soon after a damaging one of 7.6 magnitude on September 19. That date is infamous in Mexico, given its coincidence with deadly earthquakes in 1985 and 2017.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City said a woman died after falling from the stairs as she left her home in response to an earthquake alarm.
