Brits wanting to check coronavirus lockdown rules in their local area can use a postcode-checking website to discover what restrictions apply to them.

Certain areas of the country have faced recent spikes in Covid-19 cases, prompting the roll out of stricter, targeted lockdown rules in those parts.

The stricter rules have been imposed on areas including Preston, Greater Manchester, Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Rossendale, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Leicester.

But because of the uneven approach, some people are not sure which rules apply to them when they are at home or travelling.

A web developer has created a website called Lockdown Checker to help fix this problem.

What is the new lockdown checker?

Lockdown Checker is a search engine which lets people discover what restrictions apply to them.

Jamie, the creator of the website, said: “Working in a business that routinely sends staff into people's homes around the UK, I was inspired to build a solution which would allow our customer service team to quickly and confidently check whether a customer fell into a lockdown zone in the UK and what the restrictions in an area meant for our business.

“The main product on the home page can be used by anyone to quickly check whether any individual postcode falls into an area of the UK which currently has restrictions in place to combat COVID-19.”

How to check your local rules and restrictions:

Users simply have to type in their postcode to the new interactive checker to be told what lockdown rules they have to follow.

The website informs people of the “watchlist status”, and whether non-essential shops are open, whether households can meet indoors or outdoors, and if pubs, restaurants, gyms, and fitness centres are open.

Jamie is also planning to add the number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in the area to the website.
