New logo unveiled for £20 million Dumfries Town Board project

The project leading the £20m regeneration of Dumfries town centre now has an official logo incorporating the iconic Midsteeple with a unicorn and stag.

The modern design, featuring symbolic elements from the Dumfriesshire Coat of Arms – is down to Dumfries High School pupil Sienna Mutch, who won a competition involving the town’s four secondary schools.

Dumfries Town Board said it will now use the stand-out logo as it begins to gather views and priorities for regeneration.

Chairman, Richie Nicoll, said: “The entries received were phenomenal. They were invited to use any symbolism they associated with Dumfries within their designs and Sienna’s design was a worthy winner. Congratulations Sienna.

“The resulting logo is a nod to the rich heritage and culture of Dumfries combined with a bold modern style suitable for Dumfries in the long-term.”

The logo will be in use as the town board encourages residents to have a voice in the regeneration process.

It is inviting the public to call into its base on the High Street from Wednesday to Saturday to collect questionnaires.

They will soon be available online, with community engagement opportunities also being set up.

Mr Nicoll added: “We are grateful to Creatomatic for their generous offer to pick a winning design to develop.”

Dumfriesshire web design agency Creatomatics’ director, James Miodonski, and his team helped judge the student entries and shortlisted the most promising designs.

Laura Tickner and Rosie Mossop then refined the winning concept into a professional logo suitable for future use.

James, whose work on the Langholm Explore and Discover project is shortlisted for this year’s Scottish Design Awards, said: “Sienna can be incredibly proud of the concept she submitted.

“It provided a fantastic foundation, and the final design stays true to her original vision.

“Projects like this, that combine local talent with professional expertise, are truly rewarding. I’m thrilled with the final outcome.”

Sienna was rewarded with two tickets to Youth Beatz, including a meet and greet with the headliners Saint Phnx.

Dumfries businesses also collaborated to create a goodie bag for her filled with treats.
