New BBC One and HBO Max series The Girl Before has premiered its first-look trailer – and if you ever thought your landlord was tough, you might just have it a little better than Jane in this series.
The four-part psychological thriller series tells the story of Jane (Mbatha-Raw), who gets the chance to move into a beautiful house designed by an enigmatic architect (Oyelowo). There's just one catch: the occupants must abide by his odd list of rules.
No pictures on the walls, no carpets or rugs, no ornaments – basically anything that makes a house a home is a no-go for the landlord.
Jane starts to feel the house changing her in unexpected ways, but when she makes the shocking discovery about her predecessor Emma (Plummer), she's forced to confront unnerving similarities.
As the two women's timelines interweave, Jane begins to question if her fate will be the same as the girl before.
The EastEnders stars will play a couple in the series, with Hardy – who has appeared in titles such as Bohemian Rhapsody, 6 Underground, and X-Men: Apocalypse since quitting EastEnders in 2015 – portraying Emma's boyfriend Simon, according to Variety.
"Simon can't quite believe he's got a girlfriend like Emma," the publication said. "He'll do anything to keep her, but worries he's not enough for her. Living in the minimalist haven of One Folgate Street, the creation of Edward Monkford heightens his insecurities even more."
The Girl Before premieres on BBC One on Sunday, December 19 at 9pm, and will stream on HBO Max in the US.
