Whether its getting an unexpected free coffee from Pret or riding on the front of the DLR (hours of fun), there are some simple things Londoners love doing more than anything else.

Come summertime, there are few things better than pulling on a pair of flip flops, firing up the disposable BBQs and enjoying a few rays with a Red Stripe or two.

Thankfully, there are loads of great spots for London's sun worshippers to take advantage of the great weather and move the party outdoors.

From rooftop bars to green spaces and boozy markets, these are the best outdoor spaces to celebrate in style.

The Queen of Hoxton

While the downstairs space at Curtain Road's Queen of Hoxton is fun in its own right, its the roof terrace that really makes the place popular. This year organisers are transporting guests with a Las Vegas theme, imagining the city transformed by eco-warriors and reclaimed by nature. It's a great addition to the venue, which makes for one of east London’s best party spots on sunny afternoons.

People’s Park Tavern

Victoria Park has hosted some of the biggest festivals in London over the years, including All Points East Festival last May. It’s also home to one of the most popular pubs in Hackney with the People’s Park Tavern. The spacious beer garden round the back of the pub is a pretty spectacular place to take in summer evenings and its location right on the edge of the park makes it the ideal meet-up point for Hackney’s fun-seekers.

The Crown and Shuttle

You'll find the Crown and Shuttle just down the road from the Queen of Hoxton, taking pride of place on Shoreditch High Street. During the week the generous pub garden is perfect for a relaxed pint but it's one of the buzziest pubs in E1 on Friday nights and Saturdays. It's perfect for day sessions with a bunch of friends, while the burgers and hot dogs served from food trucks in the garden are perfect for soaking up the booze. With outdoor space at such a premium in east London, the Crown & Shuttle is a real gem.

Skylight at Tobacco Dock

If you’re after a party venue with a view you could do a lot worse than Skylight at Tobacco dock, another converted car park which offers a stunning vantage point in E1W in a quirky setting. The venue is hosting both World Cup and Wimbledon screenings over the coming months while punters can also enjoy a game of boozy croquet or two. It’s not just summer where Skylight comes into its own either: the venue is offering hearty, warming outdoor dining as part of their autumn programme and hosts Europe’s only rooftop ice rink in the winter too.

Roof East

On paper the top of a car park in Stratford might sound like a pretty bleak place to spend an afternoon. Thankfully, though, the Roof East guys have done a great job of turning this unusual venue into one of the most comfortable and fun-loving in east London. Multiple bars serve up a good range of frozen cocktails and everything’s pretty reasonably priced too, meaning your day out here in the sun won’t cost the earth.

Pop Brixton

Pop Brixton has proven to be a great addition to SW9 since opening in 2015, becoming a real south London favourite in that time. Catch the World Cup action here this summer with big screens in the Greenhouse and the Pop Box areas and enjoy some of the best chicken in the city courtesy of the Other Side Fried and Mama’s Jerk stalls. Not to be missed.

Camden Market

Camden is home to one of the very booziest and best-stocked street markets in the city. Whether you prefer to take in the atmosphere by the lock, the market itself or on the beer terrace at Lockside Camden you’re sure to find great places to enjoy the summer and get your party on. If you’re feeling a little peckish any one of the 34 street food vendors will whip you up something delicious to keep you going too.
