This photo shows hero police officer Keith Palmer in uniform sharing a selfie with two students on a trip to London.

The new image of PC Palmer smiling in his uniform emerged as a tribute fund in his memory hit more than £380,000.

PC Palmer, 48, was stabbed to death by a brutal attacker who went on a rampage in Westminster on Wednesday afternoon.

A fundraising campaign has since been set up in memory of the unarmed cop, who died as he protected Parliament. By 8am on Friday, less than 48 hours following the attack, it had raised more than £380,000.

Two teenagers shared a moving photograph of the brave police officer, taken while he was on duty and stationed in front of Big Ben.

A-level students Will Robins and Tyler Chatterley-Russell, both 16, told the Standard they took the photograph while on a college trip to London last year.

The pair described how it was PC Palmer’s idea for the boys to pull funny faces in the photo, after the officer was initially pictured in the background of the shot.

“We were on a photography trip and we went to see Big Ben and we wanted a photo and he was in the background," the boys said.

“We said, do you want to join in.

“The reason why we were pulling faces was because PC Keith said do you want to do a funny face. He suggested that.

“We had a chat, he was very being very professional but very nice to people. He seemed very up for a photo.”

The two boys, who go to Hereford Sixth Form, added: “It’s very tragic, it’s awful. To target someone who was unarmed.”

On Thursday tributes poured in to the husband and father, with the Police Federation saying they have been left “numb” by the killing.

His friend and former colleague Conservative MP James Cleverly made an emotional tribute to him in Parliament and called on Theresa May for PC Palmer to be recognised posthumously.

Eight people have now been arrested following the attack, which police said left five people dead and 27 people injured, including 10 in a critical condition.

The JustGiving page in memory of PC Palmer was set up after the Met Police released his identity. Donations have flooded in from people across the UK.
