Several people were stabbed in a building just yards from London Bridge on Friday afternoon in what police are treating as a “terror-related” incident.
Eyewitness Coralie, who asked Yahoo News to withhold her last name, said over WhatsApp that she saw “two, three people stabbed” at Fishmongers’ Hall on Friday where she was working.
“One minor and the other two were proper bleeding,” Coralie said. “One of our colleagues is in the hospital with three stabs.”
The attack appears to be linked to an ongoing incident that police are responding to on London Bridge.
The Metropolitan Police said on Friday it responded to “a stabbing at premises near to London Bridge,” a man was detained, and number of people were injured following.
The police said they were treating it as a terrorist event even though the details remain unclear. Eyewitness report gunshots and armed police. Nearby areas have been evacuated.
Coralie said men came through the doors of Fishmongers’ Hall at “very close to 2 o’clock” during a “learning anniversary event” and started attacking people.
Coralie said she only saw one attacker but believes there were three. A colleague, named only as Lukas, was stabbed “trying to fight with the three aggressors” she said.
“I was in the building when I heard the screams and one girl ran towards me because she got stabbed in her arm and everyone inside the conference started to panic.”
Coralie estimated there were around 100 guests and 50 staff at Fishmongers’ Hall, an events venue on the north end of London Bridge.
“I think there is one person dead,” she said. “A woman got stabbed a few times I believe. And then we were evacuated.”
Coralie said she didn’t know how many people were involved in the incident. She said she “heard about 7 gun shots while I was evacuating the building. The gun shots were outside the building.”
Coralie was texting Yahoo News from a building near Fishmongers’ Hall where around 150 people were evacuated after police responded to the incident.
The Met police tweeted: “At this stage, the circumstances relating to the incident at #LondonBridge remain unclear. However, as a precaution, we are currently responding to this incident as though it is terror-related. One man has been shot by police. We will provide further information when possible.”
