London Brunch Breakdown: Searcys at the Gherkin

A lot of brunches in London look good on the plate – but few look quite as good as this when you look up.

Most Londoners have set eyes on this brunch spot from afar countless times, but now Searcys at The Gherkin is inviting them to start their Sundays in its very special room with a view.

Served either in the restaurant or the dome at the very top of the architectural icon, where all that sits between the sky and your brunch is the spectacular glass ceiling.

Brunch tends to make us feel on top of the world anyway, but this place gets closer than ever before.

What’s on the menu?

First things first: Champagne. Brunch wouldn’t be quite the same without it, and so Searcys has teamed up with Veuve Clicquot to add a little extra sparkle to the affair. Each brunch is kicked off with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Rich, served with a garnish of cucumber, grapefruit or red pepper, to enjoy over a first serving of fresh pastries and artisan breads.

For the main event, the star of the starter menu is a beautifully light and fluffy “home-made” ricotta served with full flavoured heritage tomatoes and toasted pumpkin seeds.

Eggs take centre stage on the main course menu, where the choices include fried with some spectacular Lake District black pudding, an Eggs Arlington with silky hollandaise and smoked salmon, or poached with butter beans and paprika.

Finish things off with a freshly-made waffle served with seasonal fruit and Chantilly cream – and maybe a cocktail or two.

When can I try it? Every Sunday between 11am and 3pm.

Cheque out: Four courses and a glass of Veuve Cliquot Rich will set you back £55 per head.
