Detectives investigating the death of a 16-year-old stabbed in a park in Tottenham have charged two teenagers with murder.

Stelios Averkiou was found with stab wounds at 2.15pm on August 1 at Lordship Recreation Ground. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died nine days later.

Two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, were charged with murder on Thursday.

They were scheduled to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court the same day.

A fundraiser started by Stelios’s godmother to pay for funeral costs has so far attracted more than £9,000. His family paid tribute to him on the page saying: “handsome and loving Stelios was taken from us all, far too soon, at the very young age of 16.

“Stelios leaves behind his mum Maria, little sister, who adores him and sees him as her hero, his grandparents, Godparents, God brothers and sisters, aunties, uncles, cousins and many friends.”
