London, a Devon beach... and Ipswich are among places considered some of the best destinations in the world to visit.

The capital beat off the likes of Paris, Crete and Bali to be rated the most popular destination in the world, according to TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards for 2020.

TripAdvisor says that visitors can "tick off landmarks from your bucket list, eat and drink in exclusive Michelin-starred restaurants, enjoy a pint in a traditional pub, or get lost down winding cobbled streets" in the world-leading city.

Calculated using reviews from users of its website, the awards cover the world's best destinations, beaches, airlines, hotels and attractions.

The 25 Boutique B&B in Torquay was named the best bed and breakfast hotel in the world for the second year in a row.

Writing on Facebook, hotel managers wrote: "We can't believe it - we've done it again!

"Thank you to everyone who has written us a review of their stay. We really appreciate you helping towards our big win."

Two beaches in the UK feature in the global top 20, with Woolacombe in Devon appearing at 20th, and Luskentyre, on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, appearing at 13th.

The best beach in the world, however, is in Brazil according to TripAdvisor, at Baia do Sancho, followed by Grace Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos.
