London will have a place on the Major League Baseball calendar for decades to come, according to Alex Rodriguez.

One of the biggest name’s in the history of the sport is confident baseball can eclipse the NFL and NBA when it follows suits with its first games in Europe next year.

Rodriguez’s former team, the New York Yankees, take on World Series champions the Boston Red Sox at the London Stadium in two regular season games on June 29 and 30.

The 43-year-old nicknamed A-Rod, who retired in 2016, told Standard Sport: “London will be known for MLB for decades to come, particularly by starting with something this big. This will grow and grow.”

Rodriguez was at the stadium today, calling on fans to pre-register, meaning they can purchase tickets on December 3 before they go on general sale three days later.

The NFL has been coming to London since 2007, the NBA since 2011. Both have been played out to packed crowds, but Rodriguez warned: “The Brits are so intelligent, they love the history, they love rivalries, they’re synonymous with that — and there’s no two teams in sport with a more historic rivalry. This will be big.”

The Boston Red Sox will play the New York Yankees in the first ever Mitel & MLB Present London Series 2019 on June 29 – 30 at London Stadium. To get access to pre-sale tickets and for all the latest event updates, register at mlb.com/londonseries
