50,000 runners were due to take to the streets of the capital in to take part in the 37th London Marathon.

A record 253,930 people entered the public ballot last May, as demand for places in this year’s event far outstripped availability.

Snaking from Blackheath past many of London's iconic landmarks and finishing on the Mall, the 26.2 mile race will bring parts of the capital to a standstill with extensive road closures planned along the route.
