London murders: Man dies after third fatal stabbing in under 24 hours

A man has been killed in London’s third fatal stabbing in under 24 hours.

The 24-year-old victim died after a fight in Seven Kings, east London, where second man was also stabbed.

Police were called to reports of a brawl involving a group of people in Telegraph Mews at 6.10am on Sunday, but no victims were at the scene.

A short time later, officers were called to Ilford Lane – around 1.5 miles away – to reports of a 24-year-old man with stab injuries.

“Officers attended and treated him at the scene before paramedics arrived,” a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said.

“He was taken to hospital but despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead at 12.36am.”

Shortly after 6.30am, another man in his 20s was brought into an east London hospital with stab injuries linked to the same incident in Telegraph Mews.

His condition is not life-threatening. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.

The murder was the third fatal stabbing in London in under 24 hours, and the second in Ilford in five days.

Hours earlier, a man was found with stab wounds inside a car outside a railway station in west London.

The 26-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called at around 1.15am on Sunday.

Police believe the man was stabbed in an altercation further down the road, before a car he was travelling in was involved in a collision outside West Ealing station.

It came after another man, aged 27, was stabbed to death near Aldgate East underground station in east London.

Police believe he was attacked during a fight at a house party in a block of flats, where three other men were stabbed but survived their injuries.

Officers were called shortly before 9am on Saturday and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven men, aged between 23 and 29, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The weekend also saw violence break out in Birmingham, after teenagers armed with machetes started fights at a busy cinema complex.

Sunday’s stabbing was the second murder to take place in Ilford this week, which also saw a 40-year-old man die of a head injury in Whitechapel.

A teenager was stabbed to death in a “particularly vicious attack” after reports of a fight outside a block of flats in Ilford on Tuesday night.

Mohammed Usman Mirza, 19, suffered multiple knife wounds and police believe the murder was gang-related.

According to a tally by the BBC, Mr Mirza was the 23rd teenager to be stabbed to death in London so far this year.

It is the highest level since 2008, following rising knife crime and violence across England and Wales.

Last year saw the highest number of homicides recorded in London for a decade, with the total standing at 136.

Earlier this year, Metropolitan Police commissioner Cressida Dick said violent crime was falling following an increase in the use of stop and search.

She previously said there was “some link” between the loss of more than 20,000 police officers since 2010 and rising violence.

As prime minister, Theresa May claimed there was “no direct correlation”, but Boris Johnson has vowed to recruit 20,000 new police officers in the next three years and increase stop and search powers further.
