London Politics Latest Live Government Ditches Delay To Vote Over Partygate After Revolt

A bid to delay a vote on whether Boris Johnson should be investigated over claims that he misled Parliament on the partygate scandal was dramatically axed on Thursday.Tory MPs were to be given a free vote on a Commons motion on referring the Prime Minister’s conduct to a probe by the Commons privileges committee.Ministers ditched an amendment at the 11th hour which would have delayed any vote on privileges committee until after the Metropolitan Police had completed its investigations into the string of parties in Downing Street during the Covid lockdown and the senior civil servant Sue Gray has published her final report on the affair.Commons Leader Mark Spencer confirmed the motion would proceed “unamended”.
