Wagyu beef, which can happily cost more than £150 a steak, is being sold at a tenth of the price at a new London residency.

Blackcod & Wagyu will take over the bar of Zelman Meats in St Anne’s Court, Soho, from Monday October 1.

The menu, developed by head chef Olly Bird, will offer guests a 200g Wagyu steak for £15 at lunch or £20 come suppertime. The famously high-end Wagyu typically sells at restaurants like Nobu for around £55 per 75g.

Similarly, the restaurant will also offer black cod cooked in miso for the same cost, undercutting restaurants like Roka who do the dish for more than £35.

Besides the steak and cod, other dishes on the menu at the 30-cover site will include tiger prawn tempura, lobster croquetas and tuna tartare.

To match its indulgent menu, the new Soho spot will have a decadent feel to it with large fish tanks, Japanese-inspired illustrations and food presented on vintage china, and will open each day from midday until 10:30pm.
