London-founded salad bars chain Tossed on Thursday revealed it will be serving up more smashed avocado and kale than ever, after inking a deal to buy rival Vital Ingredient.

Tossed said it has bought Vital Ingredient, which generates annual sales of around £10 million, for an undisclosed sum from investment group FCFM.

The deal brings Tossed’s London sites together with Vital’s 13 stores in the capital. The latter has branches in areas such as Soho and Fleet Street.

The combined group will operate from 38 locations across London, Welcome Break service stations and Dubai. Vital’s name will be retained.

Vincent McKevitt, who founded Tossed in Paddington in 2005, said: “Customers are still focusing on healthy eating despite the cautious economy in the UK. Many in London are sacrificing beer money to treat themselves to filling salads at lunch.”

He added: “We look forward to growing the business.”

Tossed also sells breakfasts, shakes and smoothies.
