A shooting in the north London borough of Enfield has left three men in hospital, as the wave of violence continues across the capital.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Gordon Road around 6pm on Saturday.

Police attending the scene, accompanied by the London Ambulance Service, found four men. Three of the men were injured, including two believed to have suffered gunshot wounds.

All three were taken to a hospital in north London for treatment.

Police said no arrests have been made in relation to the shooting and their enquiries are continuing. The condition of the wounded men is not yet known.

The capital has seen a significant rise in violent crime during 2018.

Although the increase in stabbings has received the most attention, there have been 12 fatal shootings and two deaths involving a knife and a gun among the 121 homicides in the city so far this year.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced plans for a violence reduction unit that would adopt an approach used in Glasgow, but said the trend could take a generation to overcome.

Earlier this week, Home Secretary Sajid Javid conceded police officer numbers were “an important part” of tackling violent crime amid calls to reverse years of funding cuts and the loss of 20,000 police officers since 2010.
