Two London eateries have made it onto The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list – albeit lower down than the year before.

Both Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner in Knightsbridge (No.7) and Brett Graham’s The Ledbury (No. 20) made the grade, joined by other ultimate culinary establishments from around the world.

Taking the top spot this year is El Celler de Can Roca of Girona, north-east Spain which endured the terrible shame of falling to the number two spot last year.

It’s not all Parisian pretension and sushi snobs – the number four spot was claimed by the Central in Lima, Peru famed for its modern take on South American cuisine.

The World’s 20 Best Restaurants are:

1. El Celler de Can Roca - Girona, Spain
2. Osteria Francescana – Modena, Italy
3. Noma – Copenhagen, Denmark
4. Central – Lima, Peru
5. Eleven Madison Park – New York, United States
6. Mugaritz – San Sebastien, Spain
7. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal – London, UK
8. Narisawa – Tokyo, Japan
9. D.O.M. – Sao Paulo, Brazil
10. Gaggan – Bangkok, Thailand
11. Mirazur – Menton, France
12. L’Arpege – Paris, France
13. Asador Etxebarri – Atxondo, Spain
14. Astrid Y Gaston – Lima, Peru
15. Steirereck – Vienna, Austria
16. Pujol – Mexico City, Mexico
17. Arzak – San Sebastien, Spain
18. Le Bernardin – New York, United States
19. Azurmendi – Larrabetzu, Spain
20. The Ledbury – London, UK

While the two dual Michelin-starred London restaurants on the list should be proud of their ranking, both have slipped down the list this year.

Dinner by Heston Blumnethal fell two places from last year’s number five and the Ledbury dropped 10 spaces down to number 20.

The group editor of The World's 50 Best Restaurants, William Drew said: ‘It has been a hugely exciting year with such a variety of culinary talents celebrated here tonight.

‘As the appetite for reaching new gastronomic heights continues to grow we feel privileged to play a part in this journey of discovery and are proud to bring together this unique community of extraordinary talent within the industry.’

The list is compiled using the votes of more than 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry, who each have seven votes.
