The London Underground station that looks more like a garden centre than a Tube stop
The Tube’s beauty might not be something that regularly catches people’s attention but one station proves to be the exception to this. Its little flower oasis makes this station feel more like a garden centre than a Tube stop.
New schemes over recent years have helped introduce little bits of beauty onto the London Underground. Art on the Underground commissions contemporary artworks such as their labyrinth mazes installed in every Tube station.
However, South Kensington station’s garden has transformed the stop so it feels like a lovely mini-garden centre. On the District and Circle line platform, staff have built a flower garden which can be admired from the Tube carriage or platform.

During the summer, the flowers bloom and bring some colour to the station platform. Commuters lucky enough to use the station get the chance to escape the grey of the city every day.
The garden can be admired on the East end of the above ground platform. Flowers can even be seen sprouting out of watering cans.
However, South Kensington isn’t the only Tube station with a mini green space. Nine ‘Tiny Parks’ are installed at St James’ Park, Belsize Park, Wood Green and Kilburn Park Stations in the form of glass terrariums.
The Tiny Parks have been around since 2016, when they were introduced by landscape and spatial design studio The Edible Bus Stop , in conjunction with TfL.
According to The Edible Bus Stop, who advocate for free, accessible local spaces in which people can mix, the Tiny Parks "help bridge the gap between employees, passengers and to create a journey from the mundane to the delightful."
So next time you're rushing around London on the Underground - why not slow down and look around? You might spot some flowers, greenery or art that you’ve never seen before.
