The real U.S ambassador to London meets Keri Russell from Netflix’s The Diplomat

The real US ambassador to London, Jane D. Hartley, invited the fake one from the hit Netflix drama The Diplomat to her Winfield House home in Regent’s Park last night. In the show, Keri Russell plays an ambassador trying to avert war in the Middle East, with Rufus Sewell as her husband.

Hartley says the show isn’t realistic, as “I wear my own clothes”, and doesn’t have them picked out. But ex-ambassador Matthew Barzun tells the New York Times that “informality” is right, but not the “people dropping dead”.

Vagina Museum seeks cash for new venue

The Vagina Museum has found a new venue after it was evicted from its last home earlier this year. But staff say they have to raise £85,000 by early June to secure the new property, a pair of railway arches in east London.

The museum says it is a “now-or-never” struggle to reopen and has raised £42,000 so far. “This pair of railway arches suited all of our needs,” one of the museum’s managers, Zoe Williams, told us, “and it’s in a great area not very far from our old home in Bethnal Green.”

The museum, which describes itself as “the world’s first bricks-and-mortar museum dedicated to vaginas”, launched in 2017 and has occupied numerous venues. It was evicted from its latest home, a property guardianship, in March this year. If the new site is secured, the museum expects to reopen in late summer.

Truss: a woman of consequence?

Blink and- you’ll-miss-her PM Liz Truss has hit out at Rishi Sunak in a speech in Taiwan, saying during her time in government the “Treasury were reluctant to take a tough line on China”. Sunak was chancellor for over two years. Truss also told her Taiwanese audience she was visiting as “I believe this is the most consequential place in the world”. The other reason, of course, is because she’s not very busy at the moment.

Archer says Tories are toast

Former Tory deputy chair and best-selling author Jeffrey Archer thinks the party is on the way out of No 10, just like in the Nineties. “We’d been in power for 17 years when the public just got fed up of us,” he says. “There’s a bit of that in the air.” Archer is predicting a 30-seat Labour majority but not thanks to its leader. “The general view in Britain is Keir Starmer is not the most exciting person on earth,” he sniffs.
