Passengers travelling on Southeastern Railway are facing travel misery due to a broken down train at London Victoria station.

Trains to and from the station are delayed or cancelled due to a fault with the 12.29pm service to Beckenham Junction, which came to a stop just outside the station.

Platforms three to eight are blocked as the train is located over a set of points, Southeastern said.

Frustrated passengers have complained of being trapped on the train for three hours.

In an update on social media, Southeastern said an assisting train was on route to help the broken train.

But it said the train was unable to couple.

Passengers are now being evacuated from the train coach by coach.

Pictures shared online showed the train sitting metres from the station, however passengers were unable to disembark.

Many vented their frustration on Twitter as travellers were left stranded on the tracks.

Some said the toilets on the train were not working as they were delayed for up to three hours.

Chris Hayward wrote: "We’re only 50m away from where we left! I know it’s not going to change what’s happened today but there’s got to be a better and quicker way to get people off the train especially when the toilets aren’t working."

He added: "Get us off please!! Walk us off the train if you have too but three hours almost now and no closer to anywhere!"

Southeastern has advised passengers to use London Buses on all reasonable routes between London and Bromley.

A spokesman for Southeastern Rail said: "We’d like to sincerely apologise to all passengers caught up in the disruption today. A train fault caused the 12:28 London Victoria to Beckenham Junction service to become stranded at approximately 12:30 this afternoon, Sunday 21 October.”

“A Southeastern rescue train arrived but was unable to move the train back into the station. Once the power on the track had been turned off, passengers were safely evacuated from the train and onto the platform, where they were met by Southeastern staff who provided coffee, water and toilet facilities. The evacuation was completed at 15:45.”

“We would encourage any passengers who were involved in this incident to contact Southeastern’s Customer Services team for Delay Repay compensation.”
