London’s Walkie Talkie Building Is Named The UK’s Ugliest Building

When you design and build one of the tallest buildings in Europe - you want to make sure people are impressed not disgusted.

Sadly the Walkie Talkie in the City of London has won an award no new building wants - the Carbuncle Cup.

This cup, presided over by magazine Business Design, is awarded to the UK’s ugliest building of that year.

The Carbuncle Jury Chair and Business Design Editor Thomas Lane said of the Walkie Talkie: ‘It is a challenge finding anyone who has something positive to say about this building.

‘The result is Londoners now have to suffer views of this bloated carbuncle crashing into London’s historic skyline like an unwelcome guest at a party from miles away.’

This is not the first time this building has received negative press for blowing over pedestrians on the street by creating wind tunnels.

In addition, modifications had to be added to the glass facades after cars were partially melted by sunlight reflected off its glass windows.

One thing cannot be taken from the 37-storey building - incredible views over all of London not to mention its impressive roof garden and restaurants.
