Londoners basked in a weekend of spring sunshine - as forecasters predicted the capital would be hotter than Madrid on Wednesday.
Met Office forecaster Mark Wilson said the sunny and dry weather is here to stay for the next few days and temperatures could peak to 20C later in the week.
The Spanish capital is forecast to be about 18C on Wednesday.
But Mr Wilson warned that wet and cloudy conditions could return on Thursday.
He said: "There is a lot of sunshine around the country and we can expect more of the same tomorrow – with temperatures around 16C or 17C in London.
"On Monday and Tuesday there will be dry and fine weather around and on Wednesday we could be seeing temperatures as high as 19C or 20C - which would make it the warmest day we have had so far this year."
The previous warmest day was March 15, which saw temperatures of 18.18C in London.
Mr Wilson added: "It looks like there isn't any chance of rain until Thursday."
