Londoners hoping for a sunny Bank Holiday Monday are set to be disappointed as forecasters say rain is set to sweep the capital.
The Met Office has warned of showers as of Sunday evening that will continue into next week, with temperatures averaging at about 16C.
Wednesday will bring the highest risk of heavy rain, with patches of showers and cloudy weather lasting throughout the week, forecasters said.
Mark Wilkinson, from the Met Office, said: “Not a bad start to the day - there will be quite a lot of sunshine throughout most of the morning and into the afternoon today [Sunday].
“From about 6pm until about 11 o’clock this evening there will be some rain across the London.”
He added: “There will be some sunshine, highs of about 16 or 17C, but there are some showers to come over the Bank Holiday weekend and in to next week.
“Rain, both heavy and lighter showers, in parts of the capital is to be expected.
“The greatest risk of heavy showers will come on Wednesday in London, and we will see average temperatures of about 15 and 16C throughout the week.”
Earlier this month temperatures hit highs of 25C in central London.
