London weather latest as Met Office forecasts 'blanket of freezing fog' as cold snap continues
Londoners are being warned to brace for hazardous freezing fog and continued cold temperatures as a weather warning remains in effect across the capital.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a cold weather alert effective from Friday evening until Tuesday morning, with potential risks to vulnerable members of the community.
The alert, which covers all regions except South West England, comes as London experiences persistent low cloud coverage and temperatures hovering around freezing point overnight.

Met Office forecasters predict extensive low cloud and freezing fog will blanket the capital, particularly on Tuesday. Freezing fog is a winter weather phenomenon that occurs when supercooled water droplets in fog freeze on contact with surfaces. A slight frost is expected in some areas, with minimum temperatures dropping to 0°C.
While Monday may offer some respite with potential bright spells breaking through in the afternoon, temperatures will struggle to reach a maximum of 7°C, remaining notably below seasonal averages.
Looking ahead, forecasters suggest more unsettled conditions will arrive by the end of January, driven by a deep area of low pressure and a powerful Jet Stream influenced by the recent North American cold spell.
Forecast for the week ahead:
Monday: Cloudy start with isolated drizzle possible. Some brighter intervals later in the day. Maximum temperature 7°C, feeling cold throughout.
Tuesday: Starting at 3°C with low cloud and freezing fog patches. Skies gradually brightening through the afternoon. Remaining cold.
Wednesday: Turning dull as thick cloud builds. Rain moving in from the south during afternoon and evening hours.
Thursday: Cloudy morning followed by heavy rain pushing in from the west. Slight temperature improvement but still below average for the season
